The US Forest Service was established in 1905, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Forest Service manages public lands in National Forest as well as grasslands and consist of 193 million acres of land, approximately equal to the size of Texas. National Forest provide many opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as camping, hiking, biking, using cabins, driving for pleasure, gathering mushrooms and firewood. Many of the facilities and services are free, however, some do require fees or permits that allows maintaining, managing and improving the services we all can enjoy. -AnS
