The National Park Service was created on August 25th 1916 when President Woodrow Wilson signed the act creating the NPS. The National Park Service consists of over 78 million acres of land. There are miles of paved and unpaved trails. Campgrounds are abundant with over 770 campgrounds and over 26,800 campsites. The largest National Park in the contiguous 48 states is death Valley National Park located in California. Here you can stand at "Badwater Basin", 282 feet below sea level. It is the lowest place in North America and one of the lowest places in the world. Exploring National Parks is endless. Tour museums; learn about the Civil and revolutionary Wars; gain knowledge about past Presidents; discover Historic Forts, National Battlefields, Battlefield Parks, Battlefield Sites and Military Parks; observe National Historic Parks, Sites, Railroads and Canals; visit National Monuments, Memorials and Landmarks. Hike to majestic waterfalls or to spectacular panorama views of mountains, wilderness areas and wild flowers; climb rocks, rock formations and inactive volcanoes; gaze at wildlife. Stroll along white sandy beaches and seashores; swim along coral reefs; explore caves, archeological sites and ruins; examine petroglyghs, pueblos and cliff dwellings. Venture out to a National Park and see for yourself. -AnS
