Yosemite National Park

Yosemite small

Our featured hotspot is "Yosemite National Park" located in central California.  The heart of Yosemite is "Yosemite Valley".  It is world famous for breathtaking waterfalls, meadows, cliffs and unusual rock formations.  The valley is 7 miles long, 1 mile wide and 3,000 feet deep.  Half Dome, an enormous granite rock rises 4,882 feet above the valley floor and is one of the most well-known landmarks of Yosemite.  From the top of Half Dome, you can enjoy an amazing 360° panoramic view.

Another well known granite rock is El Capitan.  It rises 3,600 feet above the valley floor and is the largest monolith of granite in the world.  Glacier Point is the most spectacular viewpoint where you can witness Half Dome, Yosemite Valley and 3 waterfalls all at the same time.  At its fullest, "Yosemite Falls" is the tallest waterfall in North America and the fifth tallest in the world.  Giant sequoia trees live in three groves in Yosemite.  The most well-known is the "Mariposa Grove" near the park's south entrance.  It contains approximately 500 giant sequoias which are possibly the largest living things on earth.  Visit www.nps.gov/yose for more information.
