Bryce Canyon National Park |
|

Our new featured hotspot is "Bryce Canyon National Park" located in Southern Utah. It consists of many "Hoodoos" which are colorful pillars of rock that have been left by erosion. Geologists believe that 10 million years ago forces in the Earth created and then moved the rock forming cliffs and plateaus. "Bryce Canyon" was named after Ebenezer and Mary Bryce, pioneers who settled here in 1875. More than 1.7 million people visit the park each year. It is a wonderful place to view the stars because the sky is very dark. Park Rangers known as "Dark Rangers" offer educational, fun shows as well as stargazing throughout the year.
Over 50 miles of hiking trails offer up close and personal encounters with the hoodoos. In fact, the best way to experience both the magnificent and intimacy of the Canyon's spectacular erosional features as well as it's forest, meadows and wildlife, is on foot. The highlights of Bryce Canyon are Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point and Bryce Point. Much of the park can actually be seen by car with little to no walking. The 18 mile park road is a must do where you can witness stunning scenery and breathtaking views. Visit www.nps.gov/brca to find out more. |
